WordPress has announced a three month warning that it is halting all security updates for older installations, versions 3.7- 4.0. An indelible notice will be displayed on the affected installations for the duration of their use. Beginning on December 1, 2022, security updates for WordPress versions 3.7 through 4.0 will stop.

The WordPress core development team claims that by not having to maintain security support for older versions, they can concentrate more effectively on updating the most recent versions. Although WordPress urges publishers to use the most recent version, it will continue to offer security support for version 4.01, which was released in 2015.

Publishers who are still using older versions of WordPress may want to upgrade to version 4.01 so that their websites won’t become unstable due to outdated PHP versions, themes, or plugins.
