In an effort to streamline its projects, Meta has been forced to completely halt the development of its Portal smart display device as the effects of the global economic downturn worsen.
In some areas, particularly during the pandemic, Meta’s Portal video calling device, which was first introduced back in 2018, has seen some success. Meta promoted the devices as ways to stay in touch with loved ones during the lockdown period. But now that its resources have been diverted to initiatives more in line with its longer-term goals, Meta is moving on.
Although it was stated at the time that Portal would continue to be developed as a business connection tool, Meta previously announced in June that it was discontinuing production of Portal as a consumer device.
