X and LinkedIn Introduce Initial Components for Passkey Access

Both X and LinkedIn are currently working to make it possible for users to log into each app more securely and conveniently after TikTok added Passkey access back in July.

New back-end code updates in both apps, as noted by Steve Moser, imply that Passkey support is on the way, though neither app has yet made an official announcement. To enable secure sign-in, Passkey support uses cryptographic data transfer. Users can then access each app using on-device biometric authentication options, such as Face ID and Touch ID.

The cybersecurity organization FIDO Alliance explains that, “Passkeys are a password replacement. Passkeys, as opposed to passwords, are never compromised, always secure, and don’t have any shared secrets.”
