YouTube channels promoting discredited accusations about voter fraud in the U.S. presidential race, conspiratorial content could endanger memberships and advertising revenue they get from the video service.

YouTube has rules that prohibit channels using its revenue-generation tools from making false claims and could notably undermine participation or trust in an electoral or democratic process.

Trump supporters have rallied behind the misinformation on social media, and are protesting outside vote-counting sites. A few YouTube advertisers are now avoiding sponsoring political content. But the memberships offering, where fans pay a few dollars monthly for exclusive content and promotional merchandise has helped offset lost ad sales.
