As part of Twitter’s verification redesign, brand profiles are now square-shaped to better highlight them in-stream. As opposed to the circle profiles for regular users, brand profiles now appear as square tiles.

The main problem with Twitter’s new USD 8 verification program is that it opened up a new avenue for impersonation in the app right away, causing a variety of problems for a variety of brands hours after the option was made available. In response to this, Twitter added gold checkmarks for authentic brands that aren’t available for purchase.

These new square tiles add an additional layer of assurance because users will eventually realize that squares, not circles, are the app’s default representation of authentic, official brand profiles.
