Meta is adding a new method for users to share Reels on Facebook, even if they do not have their own video content to upload.

In an effort to capitalize on the rapid growth of TikTok and align its own platforms with what it sees as a fundamental shift in user behavior, Meta has been working to increase the amount of short-form video that users are sharing. To achieve this, Meta has added a ton of tools and processes that are both intended to highlight short video clips in feeds and facilitate the easy creation of short-form video content, with this most recent iteration serving as the process’ ultimate goal.

The choice encapsulates everything Meta has been working toward over the course of the year on Facebook and Instagram.
