Facebook is taking a new step in its push to reduce the spread of misinformation via its platform. This time, the addition of informational alerts along with increased individual user penalties on the basis of content distribution – which has been flagged as fake by fact-checkers.
Simply put, it is rolling out a pop-up to alert visitors to Facebook Pages that have been frequently found to be sharing false information, as rated by Facebook fact-checkers.
As explained by Facebook: “You’ll see a pop up if you go to like one of these Pages. You can also click to learn more, including that fact-checkers said some posts shared by this Page include false information and a link to more information about our fact-checking program.”
