As part of a larger effort to dominate the short-form video trend, YouTube is launching a new tool the announcement that it will offer more direct monetization options for Shorts creators, which could make YouTube the platform of choice for more creative talent.

According to YouTube, “Shorts-focused creators can apply to the YouTube Partner Program by meeting a threshold of 1,000 subscribers and 10 million Shorts views over a 90-day period, starting in early 2023. These new partners will take advantage of all the program’s perks, including the numerous revenue streams like long-form ads and fan funding.

Since there is essentially no correlation between individual video and ad performance, YouTube has developed a new process that it believes will allow for a fair revenue split.
