WhatsApp is testing a new feature called Communities that allows users to organize their groups into larger structures that might be used in businesses or schools.
The functionality will gather groups with a maximum of 256 individuals together under larger umbrellas from which administrators may issue notifications to a community of thousands. WhatsApp has struggled with misuse such as mass texting, disinformation dissemination, and hate speech.
Users will be unable to search for other Communities on WhatsApp, and the new feature will have anti-abuse features and precautions such as forwarding limitations.
