Twitter to Block Links to Content that Promotes Hate Speech

Twitter has updated its policies to ban links to content promoting hate speech and violence. There were already certain rules to stop hateful conduct via tweets; however, the policy didn’t extend to linked content and allowed users to share the link. Twitter also said that accounts that are sharing these types of links may be suspended.

The new policy which goes into effect July 30 will block any “content that promotes violence against, threatens or harasses other people on the basis of race, ethnicity, national origin, caste, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, religious affiliation, age, disability, or serious disease.” The latest move comes from Twitter since it added warning labels to two tweets from US President Donald Trump back in May.
