Twitter Considering Charging Brands USD 1,000 Monthly for its New Gold Checkmark

According to a new report from The Information published recently, Twitter is considering charging companies and brands USD 1000 to maintain their gold verification checkmarks on the platform. According to internal Twitter documents obtained by the outlet, each affiliated account would also be subject to an additional USD 50 fee.

A feature that was previously a free tool used to prevent bad actors from engaging in impersonation has been changed, costing businesses USD 12,000 a year, making it more expensive for them to maintain their verification. Since the pricing is still being finalized and is subject to change, no date has been set for this transition.

The gold checkmark was just introduced to Twitter in December under the name “Verified for Organizations” (formerly Blue for Business). When Twitter Blue first launched, anyone who was willing to pay USD 8 could become verified, which allowed many users to tweet purportedly on behalf of businesses and public figures.
