Telegram, which has over 700 million monthly active users, is launching a premium tier with additional capabilities as part of its effort to monetize a piece of its vast user base.
The messaging service’s premium tier brings a slew of new and improved features to the app, which surpassed 500 million monthly active users in January 2021. The company also announced the launch of a feature called join requests, which would allow anyone to join a public group without the requirement for an invite link.
Verified groups and channels will be able to display their emblem at the top of the chat, which is another new feature geared at free users.
