YouTube is moving more into line with other social networks with the addition of @handles for channels, which will make it easier to drive traffic to user profile, and promote user channel in the app.

“Handles are a new unique identifier (example @youtubecreators) & ALL YouTube channels will have one,” according to YouTube. The handle will also serve as a special channel URL, offering an additional chance for branding. Custom channel URLs were previously only available to creators with 100 subscribers, but now YouTube is enabling the feature for all users within the app.

By making sure that each channel has a distinct @handle, which they can advertise directly, they can prevent users from being duped by creating fake channels.
