X Demonstrates New Ad Display, Replacing Promoted Tags

The regular “Promoted” indicator has vanished from the bottom of the post and has been replaced by a small “Ad” marker in the top right corner of recent ads displayed in the X app.

This appears to be an updated advertising strategy for the app that has recently undergone a rebranding. It might make promoted posts appear more natural and lessen their impact in-stream. This probably isn’t a significant change.

Firms are however confused whether this new ad display complies with the FTC’s disclosure guidelines and, in fact, whether it would satisfy comparable requirements in other regions, especially EU regions.
