WhatsApp’s contentious updated privacy policy faces resistance, with the Indian government requesting that the messaging giant withdraw the move and German regulators demanding an EU-wide ban on the upgrade, amid widespread uncertainty about the consequences of the messaging giant’s new data-sharing processes.
In January, WhatsApp informed users of a planned shift in its data sharing policy, which would see some information about people’s experiences with businesses in WhatsApp shared with parent company Facebook in order to offer more functionality to business users.
