WhatsApp Faces Consumer Complaints in the EU Regarding Privacy Changes-01

The European Consumer Organization and others have filed complaints against Facebook’s WhatsApp over a privacy policy modification, which has sparked a global controversy and forced some users to migrate to competitor apps Telegram and Signal.

WhatsApp announced a new privacy policy in January that permits it to share some data with Facebook and other group companies. According to the company, the modifications will allow users to communicate with businesses while having no impact on personal interactions.

The European Consumer Organization (BEUC) and eight of its members slammed the changes, filing complaints with the European network of consumer regulators and the European Commission, alleging that WhatsApp was forcing users to accept its new standards unfairly.
