Utah Law to Curtail Instagram, TikTok and Facebook Uses for Minors

Utah Governor Spencer Cox signed two laws to restrict social media use by minors on Thursday. The law states minors under 18 will require parental permission to use platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook.

The Utah Legislature passed two bills earlier this month stating that it may sue social media companies for damages. The new bills will also require social networks to give parents access to children’s posts, messages, and responses. Cox, a Republican, said on Twitter, “We are no longer willing to let social media companies continue to harm the mental health of our youth.”
