A group of 23 US House Democrats has asked Facebook Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg for details on the social media site giant’s advertising practices over targeted ads for protective equipment and gun accessories.

The lawmakers, led by House Energy Commerce Committee Chairman Frank Pallone, cited media reports that indicated the ads were shown next to news about the Capitol siege on January 6 and next to content that amplified election misinformation.

The lawmakers said, “Targeting ads in this way is dangerous and has the potential to encourage acts of violence.” Facebook did not immediately comment.
