US Court Hears Appeal Against Order Blocking TikTok App Store Downloads

On Monday, a US appeals court questioned a government lawyer over the Trump administration’s efforts to ban Americans from downloading TikTok from US app stores.

Appeals Court Judges Patricia Millett, Judith Rogers, and Robert Wilkins questioned the government and the lawyers for TikTok.

On Sept. 27, US District Judge Carl Nichols blocked the Commerce Department order hours before banning new downloads of the app.

The ban would have required Alphabet’s Google and Apple Inc to remove the app from their stores, thereby preventing new users from downloading it and existing users from downloading updated versions. However, it would not have stopped existing users from accessing the app on their devices.
