UK Reveals Law to Fine Social Media Companies That Refuse to Remove Online Abuse-01

The United Kingdom recently announced that a proposed new law will see social media firms fined up to 10% of their annual turnover or 18 million pounds ($25 million) if they refused to combat online abuses such as racial hate crimes, with senior executives facing criminal charges.

According to the government, the Online Safety Bill aims to reinforce the right to freedom of speech and secure democratic political dialogue and journalistic content.

Minister of the Interior, Priti Patel said that it’s past time for tech companies to be held accountable and the British people to be protected from harm and penalized if fail to comply.
