Twitter to discontinue free API access beginning February 9

In an effort to increase revenue for the platform, social media behemoth Twitter Inc. has declared that it plans to end free access to its API.

The API, which is used by bots, researchers, and practical tools, will be discontinued, according to the company, in favor of a “paid basic tier.” The company announced that it would stop supporting free access to both the Twitter API version 2 and version 1.1 on February 9. Instead, a paid basic tier will be made available.

The fundamental functionality provided by Twitter’s API allows users to access data from the social media platform to carry out simple tasks like retrieving and analyzing public data, sending and receiving tweets, and enabling third-party apps to connect to the platform.
