Twitter is reportedly working on a new process that would ostensibly prevent users from using certain app features until they can demonstrate that they are actually human – “by spending time engaging with user timeline and connecting with others,” according to app researcher Alessandro Paluzzi.

The bot problem in the app is so severe that Musk once considered terminating his agreement to acquire Twitter because of the bot problem. The discovery coincides with Twitter’s confirmation that, following a recent staff purge that included thousands from its moderation teams, it is now relying more heavily on automation to moderate content.

Twitter is reducing the amount of manual case review it conducts in order to manage more with fewer human oversights.
