Twitter’s India unit has recruited an interim Chief Compliance Officer and will soon name other executives to comply with the country’s new IT rules, the social media company said on Thursday, amid tensions with the government.
The IT rules, which went into effect at the end of May, are aimed at regulating social media content and making companies respond quickly on legal requests to remove posts and sharing details on the originators of messages.
Twitter has advertised job openings for three new positions and stated that it will make an offer of employment to resident Indians within eight weeks as required by the law.
