The Twitter Moderation Research Consortium (TMRC), a team of specialists from academia, civil society, nongovernmental organizations, and journalism, was established by Twitter earlier this year with the goal of examining platform governance challenges on the social media platform.

Prior to now, only a few carefully chosen trusted collaborators were eligible to join the TMRC. However, Twitter is now allowing all researchers to apply. Applicants must demonstrate their affiliation with one of the TMRC’s list of approved organizations, their proficiency with “data-driven” analysis, the existence of a concrete use case for the data that serves the public interest, and their employment of “industry-standard” security measures.

Undergraduate students, business and government representatives, and organizations who intended to share TMRC data with governments or other external parties are ineligible.
