Snapchat releases Avatar lens for metaverse

Snapchat has released an AR Avatar lens filter, which makes users look like a Sims character – the way they would look in a metaverse. The new Snapchat lens is a continuation of their efforts to incorporate augmented reality into the Metaverse.

Earlier in the month, the company announced at Lens Fest that there are more than 250,000 lens creators from more than 200 countries. Together, they have produced 2.5 million lenses that have been viewed more than 3.5 trillion times. Moreover, Snapchat’s Spotlight gave 12,000 creators a total of USD 250 million for the uploads.

Snapchat claims that more than 65 percent of Spotlight posts use one of Snapchat’s creative tools or lenses. Companies like Niantic and Snapchat think that augmented reality is a better fit for building a metaverse than virtual reality.
