Shopify, providing a cloud-based, multi-channel commerce platform to support small and medium-sized businesses, has promised to make its platform safer and better in many more aspects, the European Commission has said.

Among the changes promised is a redesign of the template, allowing for company information and contact details. This would help to ensure that the traders get clear guidance on their relevant EU law for privacy and data security. This would also allow any regulatory authority to access trader details in case of a need.

Shopify has also offered to remove web shops that have been violating the EU consumer law.

“Almost 75% of internet users in the EU are shopping online. This is a huge market for scammers and rogue traders to exploit, and they will continue to do so unless we act,” EU Commissioner for Justice, Didier Reynders said, as reported by Reuter. “We welcome Shopify’s commitment to ensure that traders operating on its platform are aware of their responsibilities under EU law, and are taken down if they break the rules,” he said.
