Shopify has acquired Remix, a startup developing an open-source web framework similar to Next.js, the companies announced in a joint statement.

Financial details weren’t made public, but Remix CEO Michael Jackson claimed in a blog post that Shopify will provide Remix with “long-term backing and support” that will enable it to “grow faster” and “sharpen its focus on performance and scalability.” Remix had received USD 3 million in seed funding from OSS Capital and angel investors Naval Ravikant, Ram Shriram, and Sahil Lavingia prior to the Shopify acquisition.

Dion Almaer, VP of engineering at Shopify, wrote in a post on the Shopify Engineering blog that the addition of Remix to Hydrogen will benefit both Shopify developers and merchants.
