Cloud-based software company Salesforce is in advanced talks to acquire workplace messaging app Slack.
The tech giant has been on an acquisition spree the past few years. It acquired MuleSoft for $6.5 billion in 2018 and acquired Tableau Software for $15.3 billion in 2019.
Salesforce’s bid comes as Slack struggles to capitalize on the switch to remote working during the coronavirus pandemic in the face of tough competition from Microsoft and other workplace apps.
Salesforce sees potential acquisition as a logical extension of its enterprise offerings. The price it is offering for Slack is not yet disclosed.
