Russia Partially Suspends Punitive Twitter Slowdown-01

After deleting a significant portion of content considered illegal by Moscow, Russia partially suspended a punitive slowdown of Twitter on Monday, but urged other US internet platforms to comply with local legislation or face penalties.

Since March, Russia’s state communications watchdog Roskomnadzor has slowed Twitter’s pace and threatened to shut it down entirely for failing to remove banned content fast enough, as part of a larger effort by Moscow to strengthen its control on the internet.

However, the watchdog announced on Monday that it would no longer block the service, and that the slowdown would only affect mobile devices.
