The Poynter Institute has announced that it has received funding from Google News. Both the companies are collaborating to help some local newsrooms to lead young enthusiasts in creating and engaging in social video storytelling. Google is already a partner with Poynter on MediaWise.
This Google initiative will drive local publishers to use video to reach out to more audience for journalism. Chrissy Towle, News, and Local Media Head, Global Partnerships at Google, said, “Poynter’s focus on sparking innovation in the news space is why they’ve been such a valuable partner…As the web becomes more visual, this is a great way to help publishers connect with young people and, in turn, guide them to develop healthy news habits.”
