Meta’s “Widely Watched Content Report” highlights top content trends on Facebook

Meta has released the latest version of its Widely Watched Content report, which aims to dispel the notion that Facebook’s algorithms favor divisive, argumentative, and political content, with real data showing what most Facebook users see in their feeds is much more every day.

Earlier versions of the Widely Watched Content report showed that many of the most watched posts and stories were actually ultimately removed for violating Meta’s terms of service, so while Meta tries to emphasize that it’s not facilitating the spread of malicious information, it’s actually done quite the opposite in some ways.

For the most part, the report shows that what gets the most attention on Facebook is generally light, humorous content — showing that politics doesn’t dominate the feed.
