Meta's new disclosure requirements for digitally altered ads are now in effect

Meta has implemented new disclosure standards for digitally altered political advertisements. In order to run ads pertaining to social issues, elections, and politics, advertisers are now obligated to provide an indication.

They need to notify if an ad “includes a photorealistic image or video, or realistic sounding audio, which was digitally generated or modified through artificial intelligence or other means.” In an effort to avoid the anticipated deluge of generative AI advertisements during the next U.S. Election campaign, Meta first announced the new policy in November of last year.

According to Meta, all advertisements must now check the box to disclose when they have been digitally altered, or else they risk having their ads removed and/or banned.
