Meta has announced that it will not hold its premier F8 Developer Conference in 2022, as it looks ahead to the next major shifts in both its own business and internet usage.
In the past, F8 has been the venue for Meta to announce major initiatives and showcase its next-generation research. However, due to COVID and other disruptions, it has been cancelled twice in the last three years.
As Meta explained, “similar to previous years, we’re taking a brief hiatus from programming and will not hold F8 in 2022 to focus on new initiatives geared toward the next chapter of the internet.” As with the early stages of the web, the company notes that building the metaverse will require collaboration at every stage – with other companies, creators, and developers.
