According to a company blog post, Meta is continuing to prioritize age-appropriate ad experiences for teen users with a number of updates. Age and location will still be acceptable targeting metrics, but gender will no longer be one of them. Engagement on its apps, such as Facebook and Instagram, will no longer influence the kinds of advertisements that teens view, among other changes. Through Ad Topic Controls, which let them filter topics and particular advertisers, teens will also be able to control the types of advertisements that are presented to them starting in March. Teenagers can find more resources on a new privacy page that Meta has added to help them understand and protect their privacy. The company has made a number of attempts to reduce the effectiveness of its ad personalization features in response to mounting criticism.
