Instagram Announces Removal of Live Stream Shopping Elements

Following its withdrawal from live shopping on Facebook in August of last year, TechCrunch has reported that Meta is giving up on its live shopping campaign on Instagram.

According to reports, “Starting on March 16, 2023, Instagram users won’t be able to tag products while livestreaming — a capability that has been broadly available to U.S. businesses and creators since 2020.” As previously mentioned, live shopping has been extremely popular in China, expected to generate close to USD 400 billion in the country alone in 2022, which is roughly equal to all eCommerce spending in the US for the previous year.

Meta is completely abandoning the process as it looks to reduce expenses and streamline its operations.
