The organization formerly known as Twitter, X, continues to concentrate on different aspects of the broader “everything app” concept. Live video is currently the main focus, along with revitalizing Periscope’s code base, as a way to encourage more users to broadcast themselves using the app.
Users of X can now broadcast live on iOS, as Elon demonstrated above. The format is essentially an updated version of what people were using with Periscope in 2015. It’s nothing brand-new.
Since 2016, X/Twitter has had this functionality available, along with live audio in Spaces, but only a relatively small percentage of users have paid much attention to either.
Former Twitter management deprioritized live streaming in the app after shuttering Periscope in 2021.
