Facebook to Limit Political Ads Week Prior to the US Elections

Facebook has announced that it will ban political advertisements the week before the US elections in a bid to eliminate misinformation on its platforms. The social network will prohibit politicians and campaigns from running new election ads in the week before the election. However, they can still run existing ads and change how they are targeted.

Moreover, Facebook is also introducing a forwarding limit on Messenger and will be limit sending messages to five people or groups at a time. The platform will also remove posts that claim people will contract coronavirus if they vote in-person and block posts from candidates and campaigns that try to declare victory before official election results are available.
