Facebook Says the Move to Remote Working Could Hinder Job Growth in Ireland-01

Facebook’s European headquarters in Ireland will continue to “aggressively” grow staff/ remote employees. But the company’s Irish chief said that a company-wide policy enabling permanent remote employment from other countries could restrict that expansion.

Ireland’s economy is heavily reliant on multinational corporations, which employ roughly one out of every eight Irish people, and any attempt to allow remote working from abroad would exacerbate the challenge already created by a planned global corporate tax overhaul.

Following more than a year of many employees working remotely due to the COVID-19 outbreak, Facebook, one of Ireland’s top employers with roughly 3,000 full-time employees and another 3,000 contractors, will allow some employees to permanently relocate.
