Instagram has put a hold on a new app it has been developing for kids, in a decision that comes amid rising criticism to the initiative.
Instagram Kids was meant to require parental permission to join and provide ad-free, age-appropriate material, but advocacy groups and U.S. lawmakers in the United States have pushed the social media giant to cancel its plans, citing safety concerns.
Instagram announced in a blog post that while creating Instagram Kids was the right thing to do, it was pausing development and would focus on its parental monitoring tools instead.
