Meta is investing heavily to increase the audience for its short video products. The company is introducing a Facebook Reels API for developers to incorporate into their apps as the most recent step toward making those offerings widely accessible.

Users will now be able to use the “Share to Reels” feature on third-party apps to directly share Reels on Facebook pages. According to a blog post by the company, “Facebook Reels API will enable 3rd party platforms to directly enable a ‘share to reels’ feature, removing friction for users who previously used 3rd party platforms and then later uploaded to Facebook.”

According to Meta, the new Reels API has already been incorporated into the platforms of Jellysmack, Sprout Social, and Wix by three of its launch partners.
