Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram have all been restored following an outage that lasted over six hours. A faulty configuration change, according to the company, was the cause. Facebook owns all three services, which could not be accessed on the web or through smartphone apps.

With 10.6 million trouble complaints from around the world, Downdetector, a company that tracks outages, said it was the largest failure it had ever seen.

Facebook said in a statement that the faulty configuration change impacted the company’s internal tools and processes, complicating efforts to remedy the issue. “No evidence that user data was compromised as a result of this downtime,” it added.
