Facebook Evades EU Ban on Processing WhatsApp User Data

A European Union privacy watchdog has rejected a request from Germany’s top data protection regulator for an EU-wide ban on Facebook‘s use of personal data from its WhatsApp subsidiary, but has instructed the social network’s lead EU regulator in Ireland to look into the matter.

WhatsApp stated in May that the action was without merit and that it would not affect the deployment of the update. It welcomed the European Data Protection Board’s (EDPB) decision on Thursday and stated that it would collaborate with the Irish regulator to fully address the issues mentioned.
