Facebook has recently acquired the AR startup, Scape Technologies, to build a 1:1 3D map of the physical world. As per TechCrunch, the purchase amount is estimated to be nearly $40 million. The startup focuses on creating a digital representation of the real world. It is planning to design an infrastructure for the next-gen spatial-computing devices, which majorly includes autonomous devices and interactive gadgets.
With this acquisition, it is expected that Facebook will utilize the technology to build new AR experiences for the platform. The Scape mechanism will enable Facebook to create a 3D mapping that it was unable to develop to date.
