Australias News Content Revenue-Sharing regulation set to affect Facebook

In April 2020, the Australian Government proposed a new regulatory reform that would force tech giants Google and Facebook to share their revenue with Australian news publishers. In response to the new proposed legislation, Facebook has issued a rebuke, criticizing the draft laws, the regulators, and the Australian Government.

This new legislation relies on the fact that Facebook and Google require content from Australian publishers. However, that is not the case. As both are private enterprises, they can choose to block the URLs of these providers. This law is said to incur more damage to the news organizations that Australia wants to protect.
