According to information sent via email from a company representative, Albertsons became the first supermarket to start offering customers the ability to purchase and receive tangible items in the metaverse on Cyber Monday.

In its pilot program, Albertsons offered Signature Select pretzels, peanut butter cups, and a six-pack of mini Cokes for USD 1 with free delivery on Decentraland, a 3D virtual browser-based platform. The Meta Mega Deal, a limited-time promotion from Albertsons, sought to merge the experiences of physical and digital customers. Albertsons advertised the Meta Mega Deal on 25 digital billboards in Decentraland as part of the promotion.

According to the press email, customers could scan the QR codes on the billboards to purchase the bundles and have them delivered in as little as 45 minutes by paying with a credit card.
