Hive Social, which has experienced a significant increase in popularity over the past few days, is being considered as a Twitter substitute. Hive today finds itself in the top 20 on the U.S. App Store after witnessing an increase in new interest over the weekend as things at Twitter continues to devolve. Unlike Twitter, Hive does not use ads for revenue. Instead, users pay an additional fee to unlock new. Hive’s total number of downloads has an international distribution of about 86 percent.
Starting Friday, there was a spike in downloads that continued through the weekend, pushing the total number of users over a million.
