A Russian Court Fines Twitter and Facebook for Failing to Delete Illegal Content

A Russian court fined US social media companies Twitter and Facebook for failing to delete illegal content. In recent months, Russian authorities have taken steps to tighten regulation of technology firms by imposing minor fines for content violations, as well as attempting to compel foreign corporations to open offices in Russia and store Russians’ personal data there.

The Tagansky District Court in Moscow said that it had fined Facebook a total of 6 million roubles (US$81,320) for two administrative offences connected to requirements that website operators delete forbidden content or face fines.
