Infortrend® Technologie, Inc. (TWSE: 2495), the industry leader in enterprise storage, has introduced its new all-flash unified storage EonStor GS U.2, the 100GbE -Network protocols supported. The new storage solutions offer extremely high performance and aim to speed up the post-production processes for 8K / 4K videos.
With 4K Ultra HD becoming the norm, the move to 8K is imminent. They offer significantly more image detail, resulting in an exponential increase in file size. Depending on the codec format, a raw footage in 8K is about three times larger than the same footage in 4K . The huge 8K files also bring other challenges, most notably the need for high-throughput, low-latency storage solutions in post-production and multi-user sharing.
Designed for 4K / 8K video post-production, the Infortrend EonStor GS 3024UT and 4024U feature 100GbE interfaces with RDMA, high-bandwidth PCIe Gen 4 slots, and support U.2 NVMe SSDs capable of up to 24GB/s deliver block-level reads and 18 GB/s file-level reads.
Thanks to the increase in performance, studios can use the new solutions to improve workflow efficiency in 4K / 8K post-production. For example, the GS 4024U can support 48 layers of 4K video playback with a single controller . This is the case of a US company that post-produces videos for streaming platforms. They have 100GbE storage solutions for the 4K-Multimedia post-production planned and allocated 1.6 GB/s bandwidth to ten workstations. The goal is to create a 100GbE infrastructure that seamlessly connects to existing 100GbE servers to provide high throughput and low latency, and to balance performance differences between client and server.
