Global CSPs choose Mavenir’s BSS technology for digital enablement as they transition for the 5G future

Global CSPs choose Mavenir's BSS technology for digital enablement as they transition for the 5G future-01

Mavenir, the networking software provider building the future of networking with cloud-native software that runs on any cloud and transforms the way the world connects, announced today that several communications service providers (CSPs) are upgrading their Business Support System (BSS) with Mavenir’s Digital Enablement Platform (MDE) to offer new digital services that monetize investments in 5G networks.

The MDE is a cloud-native, catalog-based digital BSS that enables CSPs to easily create new 5G digital offerings or complete 5G network transformation with charging and mediation capabilities, and can also be used to design a customer service experience. digital marketplace, bundling products and services from industry partners into unified offerings. “ With Mavenir’s MDE platform, CSPs can fearlessly innovate by rapidly introducing new services and engaging their customers to become an integral part of their digital lives,” said Sandeep Singh, General Manager of Digital Enablement in Mavenir.

The MDE can be run as an integral BSS or, more importantly, as a digital overlay with the existing legacy BSS to minimize risk and disruption. BSS digital overlay systems can help CSPs maximize throughputs in the 5G era. Analysys Mason forecasts: “ The digital overlay approach can also significantly reduce costs, potentially saving CSPs up to 50% over 3-5 years compared to traditional transformation approaches. 1 ”

Recent Mavenir MDE implementation examples include:

— A leading CSP in Japan for business-to-business (B2B) mobility services

The CSP successfully launched its Mobility Bundle Services for business customers. Typical service includes a SIM package plus phones purchased in bulk (tens of thousands). The BSS provided a first-of-its-kind agile, co-development, automated continuous integration and distribution (CI/CD) that enables quarterly updates that include modules such as product catalogue, customer relationship management (CRM ), configuration, pricing and quotation (CPQ), order management, provisioning, inventory tracking, offline sorting and collection, billing, receipting, payments and collections.

Mavenir’s digital BSS, implemented as an overlay BSS, is the primary BSS for managing the B2B customer account lifecycle and plugs back into the existing consumer BSS to take advantage of individual SIM activation capabilities, number portability work, resource inventory management and network mediation.

The implementation is carried out in the private cloud of the CSPs over the layer of containers as a service (CaaS) and platform as a service (PaaS) based on Kubernetes.

— Large mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) in Germany transitioning to mobile network operator (MNO) implementing MDE’s converged charging system (CCS) and charging gateway function Function, CGF) for 4G + 5G convergent charging

Transition to become an MNO with its own RAN, Core, IT, BSS and charging system. The CCS includes the 4G OCS (online charging system) which enables the qualification of voice service, messaging (SMS), data and charges on the diameter interfaces in real time by integrating with the elements of EPC (Evolved Packet Core) network and IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem). The same CCS core engine also includes 5G CHF (charging function), integrated with Mavenir 5GC (5G Core) NF (network function). The Charge Gateway Function (CGF), which is also part of the CCS solution, provides a modern microservices-based network and billing mediation functionality. While the first set of services is expected, including 5G FWA (fixed wireless access), becomes operational in 2022, the solution is designed to offer charges for voice, messaging, data (4G + 5G eMBB, Enhanced Mobile Broadband) and IoT in truly agile CI/CD-based upgrades in the next two years. The implementation is done in the private cloud of CSP on top of the CaaS and PaaS layer based on Kubernetes.

— Greenfield CSP in Guyana selects MDE for E2E (end-to-end) BSS and charging

Implementation of the end-to-end BSS and charging for its deployment of fixed and mobile 4G + 5G wireless services. The first phase of this multi-phase allows the CSP to launch LTE prepaid voice, data and SMS services in 2022, leveraging a 4G OCS (Online Charging System) solution for prepaid voice, data and messaging charging. The second phase will introduce postpaid services built on the BSS. The final phase includes the launch of the 5G eMBB (Enhanced Mobile Broadband) service to be implemented using MDE 5G’s integrated CCS with the other carrier’s 5GC.
